NJR Steel Rustenburg Supports Lighthouse Children’s Home with New Roof

At NJR Steel Rustenburg, community support is a core value, and this commitment was recently demonstrated through a meaningful contribution to the Lighthouse Children’s Home.


Recognizing the needs of this local children’s home, NJR Steel Rustenburg stepped in to provide much-needed assistance.

Addressing a Crucial Need

The Lighthouse Children’s Home, a haven for children in need, faced significant challenges due to space constraints.


The area where the children had their lunch and supper was exposed to the elements, making it uncomfortable during the rainy season and unbearably hot during the summer.


This situation called for an immediate solution to ensure the well-being and comfort of the children.

A Collaborative Effort

In response to this need, NJR Steel Rustenburg donated all the necessary materials to construct a roof over the dining area.


This generous donation was a crucial step in enhancing the living conditions at the Lighthouse Children’s Home. However, the project was a collaborative effort.


Jaco Conradie, a valued customer of NJR Steel, generously offered their labour and expertise to build the roof, ensuring the project was completed to the highest standards.

Making a Difference

The new roof has made a significant difference for the children and staff at the Lighthouse Children’s Home. Now, the children can enjoy their meals in a comfortable, sheltered environment, regardless of the weather. This improvement not only enhances their daily experience but also underscores the power of community collaboration.

Re-roofing a Landmark: NJR Delivers Engineering Precision at NWU Auditorium NJR Potchefstroom was recently commissioned by North-West University (NWU) to solve a persistent leak in the auditorium roof—a complex task due to the very low pitch of the existing structure. Rather than replace the roof entirely, the team opted to erect a new roof structure over the old one. This solution ensured minimal disruption to ongoing activities inside the auditorium. In the absence of an appointed architect, NJR joined the design team directly, offering both product expertise and technical input. Our proposed light steel truss system was reviewed and approved by the project’s structural engineer. The project posed significant engineering challenges. The 40-year-old auditorium had no CAD documentation—only original paper plans. The building’s large, kite-shaped roof spans 70 metres diagonally and 35 metres across the shorter axis, with perimeter wall heights reaching 12 metres.
