Steel Octopus Sculpture

"I am a sculptor who uses NJR Steel as the medium for all of my sculptures. I chose The Octopus as my subject because its unique characteristics inspired me to create this piece for the Mpumalanga Show's adult small fauna art competition. I'm happy to report that the sculpture secured first place.

I use NJR Steel's plate, round, and flat bar for its high-quality steel. I also use welding rods from NJR to arc weld my sculptures. In my experience, no order is too big or too small, and the service at NJR Steel is both efficient and friendly."

"Ek het vir myself 'n 140mm AL Kanon (met G2 nomenklatuur in die SAW/SANW) gebou.  Die doel van die kanon is om dit te gebruik vir die vuur van 'n kanonsaluut vir Artillerieveterane.

"I've made a copy of my long-range rifle using only offcut steel.

After we built an implement using steel ordered from NJR, I got the idea to build a copy of my rifle with the cut-offs. It was a fun two-day project, and everyone who sees it wants to know where I got it or what the story behind it is.

"I needed an extraordinary braai for our guesthouse. I found a very old cast-iron cooking pot, half-buried under some bushes on our farm.

My wife, a Pinterest master, quickly found some great ideas.

I happened to have some old 12mm x 180mm flat bar lengths that my dad bought from NJR Steel ten years ago for a project that was later cancelled.

When he moved house, he didn't have space for the metal anymore. Ten years later, I finally found a use for it! Luckily, my father-in-law had a plasma cutter that I could borrow to cut them. A few back-breaking hours later, I was finally done.

I was worried someone might steal it, but once it was assembled, you needed three people to move the thing! The braai grid fits it like a glove."

"We made this as a project for a customer who wanted something different.

The result is a Bi-Folding Leaf Swing Gate, finished in black Ferro Grain powder coating.

It's driven by a Centurion Vantage 500 smart motor and features bullet hinges supported on ball bearings for smooth operation. The gate has a mild steel design with a mechanical mechanism."

Multi-Feature Swing Chair

"This project was made for my mother, who enjoys sitting in the sun.

The chair has an adjustable backrest with a locking mechanism that allows it to be used in either a stationary or a swinging mode.

It also has a movable bracket to mount an umbrella. The chair is fabricated from 25x25x2, 38x38x2, and 50x50x2 square tubing, which was purchased from NJR Steel Middelburg."

Artistic Floral Driveway Gate

"Late last year, I purchased a house in Westville. The house had an old charm, and I wanted to ensure the renovations kept with the ethos of the area: an integration with nature that felt green, earthy, serene, and wholesome.

A few plants were transplanted to the rear of the property as they were disrupted during construction. However, I felt the most equitable way to maintain the ethos was to highlight nature in a unique way. The long-term solution is to re-landscape, incorporating indigenous flora and fauna. In the short term, however, I decided to combine the strength of steel and the elegance of nature in the form of a gate.

I spent three weeks planning the gate, incorporating the various materials available at NJR Steel.

My welding skills were developed through years of arc welding with DIY tools. Once the gate was squared and the emblems and 6mm round bars were welded in place, a metal etch primer was applied and finished with black paint. Later, the leaves and stems were highlighted with a spray can. The entire construction and installation process took three months, resulting in a gate that is safe, practical, and beautiful."
